Titans Chat / Re: Roth v Plymouth Albion latest scores

Absolutely fantastic victory and mighty relieved that we managed to find a way to come away with the victory. I do think that it could have been a much easier victory if the team had opted for kicking for goals rather than the corner and looking for tries early on. Having missed out scoring and Plymouth using the tactic, compounded by an unfortunate charge down and score, we were very much on the back foot and chasing the victory. Great credit to all involved.
Let’s hope in the final 3 games we can come away with 3 more wins.

Titans Chat / Plymouths report on the game
« on: March 21, 2026, 09:57:39 pm »
I’m not sure the Plymouth reporter was watching what I saw unfold this afternoon

Rotherham 22-19 Albion

Match report sponsored by Relationships.

Heartbreak at the death denied Plymouth Albion a famous victory at Clifton Lane, as league

leaders Rotherham Titans snatched a dramatic late win in a pulsating National One title clash.

In what had been billed as an “epic” top-of-the-table encounter, with the prize of first place

awaiting the victors, it was the visitors who will feel the most aggrieved after producing a

performance of composure, control and resilience, only to be undone by a last-gasp drop goal.

Played under clear skies and in glorious sunshine, the contest began with a sense of tension

befitting the occasion. Both sides took time to settle, with early exchanges characterised by

cautious kicking and probing phases rather than expansive attacking play. It was Plymouth

Albion who looked the more assured in possession, however, moving the ball with confidence

and showing a willingness to build phases patiently.

That early composure translated into scoreboard pressure. Fly-half Iwan Jenkins opened

Albion’s account with a well-struck penalty, rewarding sustained pressure in the Titans’ half. He

soon doubled the tally with another three-pointer as the visitors continued to dictate territory and

tempo.

Albion’s dominance in the opening 40 minutes was clear. Their forwards carried with intent, their

defence held firm, and their decision-making kept the hosts pinned back. That control eventually

yielded the game’s first try and it came in opportunistic fashion.

A moment of sharp defensive awareness saw Albion charge down a Titans kick deep inside the

home side’s territory. The loose ball was gathered, and quick hands created the space for Joel

Brodhurst to power over, capping an excellent passage of play. Jenkins added the extras, and

Albion had a deserved cushion.

To their credit, Rotherham Titans responded before the break. A period of sustained pressure

finally told as they crossed for a try of their own, reminding Albion of the threat they posed. But

even with that response, it was the visitors who went into half-time with their noses in front,

having been the more cohesive and controlled outfit.

The second half, however, told a different story.

Albion’s dominance at the set-piece began to unravel following injuries to key forwards Dan

Pullinger and Jenson Boughton. Their absence was keenly felt in the scrum, where the Titans

began to exert real pressure. What had been a stable platform in the first half became a source

of difficulty, and Rotherham were quick to capitalise.

A series of scrum penalties handed the initiative to the home side, allowing them to build

territory and momentum. One such infringement proved particularly costly, as Titans turned the

pressure into points to haul themselves back into the contest.

As the game wore on, the physical toll of the encounter became evident. Albion, already

stretched by injuries, were forced into defensive rearguard action, while Rotherham looked to

press home their advantage in the tight exchanges. With the scores locked at 19-19 and tension at its peak, Albion produced one of the moments of

the match. Centre Jack Oulton forced a crucial turnover deep inside his own half, halting a

dangerous Titans attack and providing much-needed relief. It was a moment that encapsulated

Albion’s determination and defensive grit.

Sensing an opportunity for late glory, Albion continued to look for a decisive breakthrough. That

chance appeared to arrive in the closing stages, as a line break opened up space and set

pulses racing among the travelling supporters. But just as it seemed a match-winning score

might be within reach, a knock-on brought the move to an abrupt end.

It proved to be a pivotal moment.

Rotherham, having been under pressure for long spells, showed their experience in the dying

minutes. They absorbed wave after wave of Albion attacks, defending resolutely and waiting for

their opportunity.

That chance came in cruel fashion for the visitors. A turnover, fortuitous from Albion’s

perspective, handed possession back to the Titans in a promising position. With the clock ticking

into the final seconds, the home side kept their composure, setting the ball for a drop goal

attempt.

With the last kick of the game, Rotherham split the uprights from a drop goal, sealing a dramatic

and, for Albion, heartbreaking victory.

The final whistle brought contrasting emotions. For the Titans, jubilation at a win that sends

them to the summit. For Albion, devastation at having come so close to a statement victory on

the road.

Yet despite the result, there is much for Albion to take from the performance. For long periods,

they were the better side, more controlled, more clinical, and more cohesive. Even when

adversity struck in the form of injuries and set-piece struggles, they showed resilience and

character to stay in the fight.

In the context of a fiercely contested National One title race, this may prove to be a significant

moment. But if Albion can replicate this level of performance in the weeks ahead, they will

remain firmly in the hunt.

On another day, the outcome could easily have been different. This time, however, it was

Rotherham who had the final say, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and leaving Albion to

reflect on what might have been.

Interesting that Lloyd is playing at fly half and Harris Rutherford has not been selected. I’m sure that Lloyd is more than capable in that position but is Harris still in our squad and it  has been decided that for this match Lloyd is the better selection.

It is pleasing to see that Rotherham are likely to have the required standards in place.

Does anyone know it Plymouth, Blackheath and Sale have applied to meet the criteria? It might play a part in which team can gain promotion.

Titans Chat / The challenge Tonbridge Juddians present this weekend
« on: February 18, 2026, 07:37:40 am »
Last weekend Tonbridge Juddians played Plymouth Albion away. Here are the reports from both clubs of the game.

Tjs headed to Plymouth to take on promotion wannabes Albion on Saturday knowing what a tough encounter it would be as their hosts had yet to lose at home this season. In fact Albion had lost just three times to date in 18 rounds with TJs being one of those victors after a 35-25 home win earlier in the season.
Tjs led with an early penalty but struggled to keep Albion out and at one point trailed 26-3 before Tom Kendrick crossed late in the first half to peg it back to 26-8.
Tjs dominated much of the second half with the scrum enjoying the upper hand at times but the lineout was a tad messy when secure ball was required. A splendid team try from Lewis Gjaltema and a gallop from Curtis Barnes got TJs back to within winning distance at 26-20 with 10 minutes to go. But it was not to be as Albion held on to win and secure maximum points.
Tjs secured their 6th losing bonus point of the season, the most by anyone in the division to date, and remain 7th in National 1. Next Saturday league leaders Rotherham Titans visit The Slade for a 2pm KO.

Off the back of a week-long break, Plymouth Albion welcomed Tonbridge Juddians to
Brickfields, seeking revenge after Tonbridge got the better of the reverse fixture before
Albion embarked on their current winning streak.
Extending that run to 10 games was reliant on another strong home performance, and
the first half was just that. An early Tonbridge penalty put them 0-3 ahead, but the home
team answered just a minute later when Bobby Wigginton stormed over to score. The
kick was converted by Iwan Jenkins and Albion took an 8-3 lead after the opening
exchanges.
From that point they looked secure, despite some moments of slick passing from their
visitors. Joel Broadhurst’s presence from the line-out was imperious, and he set up
Louie Gulley to power over the line in the chaos of a maul after 15 minutes. The missed
conversion left the score at 12-3.
In a hectic end to the half, a penalty try and some excellent pace from Frankie Dart fired
Albion into a 26-3 lead with Jenkins adding the extras, before Tonbridge managed to pull
a try back. TJs kicker Connor Lloyd couldn’t find the posts, and half time arrived with the
hosts ahead by 26-8.
Dart’s try would be Albion’s last of the afternoon, but the defensive work that followed
in the second half was equally as important. Tonbridge came out rejuvenated after the
break and immediately piled the pressure on Albion. They threatened when Iwan
Jenkins’ pass was cut out, but an excellent recovery from Oscar Stewart was enough to
snuff out the danger.
It took 20 minutes for a much-improved Juddians side to break Albion’s resolve, and
Shaydn Osgood would finally cross after sustained pressure. Lloyd’s conversion was
accurate and just moments later, the Tonbridge number 11 Curtis Barnes broke free to
score another and set up a nervy finish.
The visitors pushed hard in the final 10 minutes of the game and tested the
stubbornness of the home side, but they simply couldn’t force it over the line. Jenson
Boughton won a huge penalty with just moments left on the clock, drawing a cheer from
the crowd that was as loud as a try, and the referee’s whistle went with the score 26-20
to Albion. The win extends Plymouth’s winning streak to 10 games on the bounce,
matching last season’s record and keeping pace with league leaders Rotherham.
Nuffield Health Player of the Match Archie Hill spoke after the game. He said:
“Tonbridge chucked the kitchen sink at us for a full 80 which we haven’t really
experienced this year, so it was a good sign that we managed to dig it out.”“We had a big leader in Pulley missing today so it meant other boys had to step up and
people did. We really backed each other up to finish the game with a win and a bonus
point at home for 10 in a row.”
Next up for Albion is a trip to the midlands, where they face Birmingham Moseley.
