Watto

Thanks for that,  I have looked back through the Records 2004 - 05 to 2024 - 25 and found that there were 2 more games,  on consecutive weekends,  where we were Nilled.

 Plymouth          27 - 10 - 07

 Northampton   03 - 11 - 07

Your memory is too good,  if you remember any more don't tell me,  it's done my Head in going through all the records again this morning to check if I've missed anymore, I'm so stressed that I've got to go to the Pub now to unwind.  ::)

I'm not sure about Rugby in general, but with the Titans a Drop Goal is has rare as the Proverbial Rocking Horse S**T.
When looking at 2 of our 3 losses this season we lost the games by 1 pt.  Coming towards the end of the game you would have expected our Lads to try and work the Ball Forwards and have an attempt at a Drop Goal.
In season 2015 /16 we converted 3 Drop Goals, since then we have only converted another 2.  In the last 20 seasons we've converted 30 DG's.

The one that will always be in my memory was kicked on 22 - 04 - 07.   We were playing Leeds at Headingley. It had been a really entertaining game with the Lead changing hands several times.   With just minutes to go ( we had scored 2T   2C   5P )  and the score was  29  -  29.    We  had worked the Ball forward  towards the Right Corner.
Our player was tackled, we won the Breakdown and the Ball was passed out, it landed in the hands of Gareth Steenson who was standing just 2 metres forward of the Centre Spot.  He looked up, steadied himself, then Dropped the Ball and Drop-Kicked it.  The Crowd were silent has the Ball sailed High and True and between the Posts,  the Cheer that went up was probably heard back in Rotherham. We Won the game 32 -- 29. Many people will remember Jonny Wilkinson's Drop-Kick that Won England the World Cup, that was Great,  but Steenson's was truly Fantastic.

If we could have done that against Plymouth,  or / and  Leeds,  look at the difference that would have made.

Also over that 20 Yr period we only Failed to Score any points in 5 games -------------

Doncaster         09 - 09 - 17    A    44 -- 0

Nottingham      09 - 10 - 09    A    46 -- 0

Northampton   01- 03 - 08     A    73 -- 0

Northampton   03 - 11 - 07    H     0 -  41

Plymouth          27 - 10 - 07    A     15 -  0

That was certainly a possible Banana Skin avoided.  Look at Stortfords past results,  they have scored 3 or 4 tries in a lot of games, Home and Away.
This result has put us back into Second place,  4 pts behind Plymouth, but still with a game in hand.
I predict that this season will be very close right to the end,  with Top Spot changing hands on quite a few occasions.

We now have 7 Home games and 4 Away games left to play,  with 3 of our last 4 games at Home. As good has it gets for an End of Season.

At Home next Saturday to Leicester Lions,  we really need to go for a Cricket score Win, as our Pts Difference really needs improving.

WELL DONE to all our Players on an excellent Win today.

They only Won 1 of their first 8 games, but after bringing in several New Players they have Won  5 of their last 7.  Wonder where got those Players from ?.

Would love to see the Lads come Home with 5 pts,  if they do they will have been Hard Won.

With Plymouth and Blackheath ahead of us in the Table, and playing well, we can't afford to drop much further behind.

Titans Chat / Re: Clifton game
« on: January 11, 2026, 09:15:44 pm »
I've no idea who was to blame for what decision was made regarding this game.

How could the Club (Donks) know on THURSDAY that there was NO WAY that the game would be on,  on SATURDAY.
The Weather in Rotherham on Friday was Mild Rain,  Low Wind Speed and Temp  5 deg C       Don't know if it was Freezing Friday night / Saturday morning.

Clfton would have had to Travel about  175 miles taking about 3 hrs.    The Referees decision to call the Game off should have been made at 09:00 hrs at the Latest, not at 13:00 hrs.  Do we know if Clifton had set off or indeed at the Club.     If we were at Home to Leeds, the decision to call the Game off should have been made at least 2 hrs before K/O.

We know that  the Referee has the Final decision has to the condition of the Pitch and wether it is Playable.  If the Players knew that the Game " could " be called off then did the Ref simply turn up on Saturday to confirm  a decision made earlier  ( Thursday ).

In principle it does sound unfair that supporters didn't know that that Game was Called Off until 13:00 hrs.  Some will have travelled a Fair distance to get there.

Having said this, I hope that those of you that attended had as good a time has possible.

Today wasn't all bad News,  at least we came Home with the YORKSHIRE REGIMENT TROPHY

As both Clubs have Won One game each,  i assume we've got it on points difference  over the Two games.        Roth  70 ---- 31  Leeds

To me, "Kicking the Ball away" has become the Norm in Rugby Union. I know that Try's  have been scored from doing this, but in the Modern Game defenders have become far more secure under the High Ball.  There will always be a time when the  " Up and Under " is a good attacking option, but this was generally done in the Oppositions 20, where you can really put them under pressure.
I'd like to know what percentage of Ball that our Forwards have Won from Set Scrums and Breakdowns that has been kicked away this s3ason.

As many of us have said, we have a very good set of Backs, probably the best for a few seasons, so let's put the Ball into their Hands and let them Run with it. If you have an asset make use of it.

Totally unexpected result,  but at least our 1 Bonus Point keeps us at the Top of the League going into the New Year.

I'm also pleased to see Lucas on the Wing and hopefully Flying.  We've played 13 games but Lucas has only played in One of them.  Where has he been the rest of the time ?

Training twice a week and then not being selected in the squad must be Frustrating.  This has happened with quite a few Players who have only made  1 or 2  squad appearances.  How many Players are out on Loan ?

Good Luck to the Lads tomorrow, l'm confident they will get the 5pts Win.
